The French liner “La Provence” was the first ship that received Titanic’s distress message in the night of April 14-15, 1912
August 2, 1914. The ship was taken over by the French government to become the French Navy’s Provence II, an armed merchant cruiser that was converted to a troopship in order to support the Gallipoli Campaign and Macedonian campaign in World War I
Torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-15 in the Mediterranean Sea on 26 February 1916 while en route from Toulon to Salonika with an estimated 1,700 French troops aboard. The ship sank in just 17 minutes
